AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a pensioner whose body was found by firefighters in Kinmel Bay.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin Kate Sutherland, assistant coroner for North Wales East and Central, said that on January 18 workmen noticed smoke in a first-floor flat in Plas Foryd, Kinmel Bay.

When firefighters entered the property, they found no fire but severe smoke damage.

The body of 83-year-old retired motor mechanic Terrence Amos was in the living room and he was identified by his son John.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Amos died of smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed while further investigations are carried out.
