After a successful year, a young Ellesmere swimmer has been nominated for a BBC award.
Ellesmere Titans swimmer Freya Anderson has been nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award after a breakthrough year in the pool.
The 17-year-old made headlines with some of her performances in the Commonwealth Games earlier this year when she picked up bronze for England in the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x200m freestyle relay.
She also picked up two gold medals as part of the relay team in the European Championships in Glasgow over the summer.
Freya also set a new junior European record when she finished fourth in the 100m freestyle at the European Championships.
She is named in a list of 10 young sporting elites, including Fulham and England footballer Ryan Sessegnon, who claimed the Championship player of the season and young player of the season awards last season.
Also making the list are tennis player Jack Draper, 12-year-old table tennis star Anna Hursey, para-athlete Kare Adenegan, jockey James Bowen, athlete Max Burgin, para-swimming’s Maisie Summers-Newton, gymnast Georgia-Mae Fenton and rugby league player Georgia Roche.
The winner of the award will be announced at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards on Sunday.
