Wem residents with an eye for the beautiful were able to show off their talents with a photo competition.

The winner was an image of Strawberry Hill House's main window in Twickenham, London, by Becky Haywood of Newtown while Liz Mayor received a commendation for her picture of Wem Town Hall.

Oliver Richardson, from, Wem, received a commendation for his picture of St Peter's in Cound.

A spokesperson said: "The judges were Dave Granger, a professional photographer, and David Smith, who has a wide knowledge of stained glass. There was much praise for the entries, many being of very high standard.

"The judges described the winning entry as 'well-framed, well-exposed with no loss of detail; excellent balance between plain and coloured glass'. They were particularly taken with the clarity of reflection of the window on the floor.
