There were winners young and old at the Malpas Amateur Gardeners Show last week, with 10 trophies dished out to a high standard of competitors.

The show, which attracted huge interest from both public and participants with hundreds of entries, has again why it is so popular.

Alan Bourne, one of the organisers, said: "Malpas Amateur Gardeners Plant and Produce Show was very well supported this year by our 95 members and well attended by the public.

"With more than 200 excellent entries being assessed by our team of expert judges, the culmination of the show was the presentation of trophies to the worthy winners."

The winners were: Carol Bennion took the Major Brooks cup for Best in Show plus Robinson Lesley Shield for Best Flower Arrangement; Presidents Trophy for Best Vegetable went to Brian Cliffe, who also took Members Shield; Janet Wright grabbed Sliver Cup for Best Fruit; Alison Probin for Dr Grace Trophy for Best Artistic Exhibit; Mary Huxley took Dalziel Shield for Best Flower/Floral Art while Dorothy Austin took Silver Cup for Best Child's Exhibit.

Wendy Paton grabbed both Shield for Domestic Produce and Best New Horticultural Exhibit.
