Wem Town Council has a vacancy for a new member after the resignation of Councillor Peter White, who represented the East Ward.
The council has chosen to fill the vacancy by co-option and has published criteria for eligibility, including:
You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/community in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/community area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of co-option.
Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of co-option has been in the parish/community area.
You have lived in the parish/community area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of co-option.
Prospective candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the disqualification restrictions under Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972 relating to Bankruptcy Restrictions Orders and criminal convictions carrying a sentence of more than three months imprisonment, without the option of a fine.
Applicants are asked to submit an application in writing to the town clerk at Wem Town Council, Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem SY4 5DB or via email to info@wem.gov.uk by 5pm on Wednesday, September 19.
