THIS year’s flower show organised by Ellesmere and District Gardeners’ Club took place over the weekend at the town hall.

It was another successful year for the event that once again attracted a high number of entrants and visitors.

A total of 15 cups were given out to those who took first place in their sections, with stands full of entrants in flower, vegetable and craft competitions.

A raffle took place with prizes donated by local businesses and tradesmen, with the exhibitions open to the public from 2pm, and a refreshments room open from 11am.

Gardeners’ Club secretary Verna Roberts was pleased with the standard of entries again this year, especially after the spell of dry, hot weather.

She said: “The standard of entries was sky high once again this year.

“I was very surprised at how good they were, especially with the recent hot weather making it more difficult to grow things and keep them in good condition.

“We were able to attract roughly the same amount of people as last year, and we received a terrific amount of support from local businesses which is great.

“I’d like to thank all of those who offered prizes and also our six judges on the day who were fantastic.”

Verna also said she was pleased with the support that the crafts section received.

“There were lots of knitted pieces and collages on show this time round in the crafts section, it was pleasing to see it was so well-supported.”

The next meeting at the Gardeners’ Club will take place on Tuesday, September 4.
