Schools across north Shropshire opened their doors to students picking up their GCSE results today.

Sir John Talbot's School, in Tilstock Road, celebrated another year of success with the core subjects of English, maths and science gaining 100 per cent pass grades with 70 per cent of all grades being at grade 4 and above. Subject specialists have seen incredible achievements with 20 per cent of grades in English and 15 per cent in maths at grade 7 to 9.

A number of younger students took part in this year’s GCSEs with two-thirds of year 10 students obtaining grades 4-9 in English literature. In addition, Year 9 students took part in their languages GCSE achieving top marks, which sets them well on the road to starting their other GCSE subjects in September.

Meanwhile at Thomas Adams School in Wem, headteacher Liz Dakin was delighted with their results.

She said: "Everyone has worked incredibly hard this year and these excellent results reflect this.

"Yet again, we are extremely pleased with the high percentage of our pupils who gained the English Baccalaureate, demonstrating strong performance across a suite of academic subjects."

Meanwhile students, staff and parents at Bishop Heber High School are celebrating outstanding results in the new 9-1 GCSE examinations with 82 per cent of all students achieving five or more standard passes (grade 4+) including English and maths and 56 per cent of all students achieving five or more strong passes (grade 5+) including English and maths.

Headteacher David Curry is delighted with these outstanding results. He said: “Students have responded magnificently to the increased challenge that the new GCSE’s have offered. The results reflect that Bishop Heber High School continues to prepare its students for the challenges of A-level and beyond."
