AN AWARD-WINNING pork pie company is celebrating again after they were given a Great Taste star for their products.

Powell’s Pies, based in Watergate Arcades, Whitchurch, received the award last month and Marie Powell, one half of the husband-and-wife team with Andrew, say the pair were delighted.

She said: “This is the first time we have ever entered the Great Taste Awards and are over the moon that we have received a 1-star award.

“This is a huge accolade for us as Great Taste is such a recognised competition and we have already started seeing sales increase.”

Great Taste is the world’s most coveted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink.

Out of more than 12,600 products to be judged, Powell’s Pies of Whitchurch was awarded a one-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it a food that delivers fantastic flavour for their Traditional ‘Hand Raised’ Pork Pies.

Judged by more than 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is a badge of honour.

The unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
