Staff at Whitchurch CE Junior School, in Station Road, are celebrating after an inspection by Ofsted has seen the school receive positive news.

The school was inspected on June 21 who have noted the school has taken effective action since a disappointing inspect in December 2017.

In its report, Ofsted said: "Leaders and managers are taking effective actions. You (leadership staff) acted with suitable urgency to improve the teaching of reading across the school. All staff understand the part they play in helping pupils make better progress so that more disadvantaged pupils reach age related expectations. You have taken effective action to improve the attendance of this group of pupils.

“You have introduced new assessment trackers and tests. You work closely with your leadership team to check pupils’ progress in reading, writing and mathematics.

“The leader of provision for pupils who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities has a well-developed strategy to improve the progress of this group of pupils. She works effectively with teachers to help them plan work which is appropriate and offers a suitable challenge.”

In addition the school's provisional Year 6 SATs results have seen a significant improvement, reflecting this group of children’s learning over their entire time at our school. Children reaching the expected standard in reading improved by 24 per cent with a 19 per cent improvement in children achieving the expected standard in all subjects. The progress score for this year will be broadly IN LINE WITH THE NATIONAL AVERAGE.
