Four dads from Wrenbury have raised thousands of pounds for the Wingate Centre by riding 'coast to coast'.

Tom Robinson, Oliver Caunce, Josh Walker and Scott Heirene cycled the iconic route from Workington in Cumbria to Sunderland, via the Lake District National Park and within view of Scarfell Pike, the highest mountain in England, between July 7-9.

They were joined by their support driver Scott Caunce in an incredible and gruelling challenge, following several months of training, which involved cycling 135 miles in 27-degree heat and climbing more than 10,000 feet to help to raise funds for the charity.

Together, the 'Wrenbury Dads' raised more than £3000 for the Wingate Centre in Wrenbury, a charity devoted to brightening the lives of children with disabilities from all over through respite holidays and sport and recreational activities.

Dad Tom said: “I am privileged to live in a village where the community pulls together to create very special moments in time to help great causes.

"One I couldn't resist taking part in was to raise funds for the Wingate Centre, a truly incredible charity. The opportunities and support that they provide for children with disabilities are exceptional and we were very proud to be able to fundraise for such a worthy, local cause.”

Catherine Cook, the Wingate Centre’s marketing and fundraising manager, said: “We are so very proud of our 'Wrenbury Dad’s' for taking on and smashing this incredible endurance challenge to raise money to support children with disabilities. "Really, £3000 is a significant sum of money to us and without the support of people like our 'Wrenbury Dads' we simply couldn’t continue to brighten the lives of children with disabilities.
