A FITNESS addict from Whitchurch is celebrating after raising thousands of pounds for the Wales Air Ambulance last week in honour of her dad.

Caroline Lloyd carried out a 24-hour 'workout of the day' on Friday, June 22 with a core group of fellow gym goers to raise the cash for the air ambulance, which saved her dad''s life in 2016.

Caroline skipped out just four hours of the workout but can be forgiven as it was to help her parents celebrate their golden wedding anniversary and because she had pushed herself so far.

She admitted she was delighted with how the day went and thanked all those who helped her raise the money.

"The workout of the day was an extremely popular event with many of the gym members taking part in one degree or another," she said.

"It was myself plus a core group who remained for the full 24 hours with the majority completing all 24 workouts.

"Personally I managed 20 hours, missing out on two to go wish my parents a happy golden wedding anniversary and two during night due to feeling a bit rubbish at midnight.

"The atmosphere was wonderful; every member was smiling even when it was physically and mentally tough during the early hours of the Saturday morning.

"We had huge support from member to member.

"People supplied energy food and donated drinks. People came to watch and support cheering us all on.

"The workouts were very varied from weightlifting to box jumping, running, rowing to squats, push ups, pull ups plus many more."

Caroline said her dad offered as much support as he could in his own way.

She added: "Dad didn't feel well enough to attend but did his own workout on his electro stimulation bike at home in support.

"David Wilson worked so hard to put the event together to make it a huge success and run as smoothly as it did from 11am Friday to 11am Saturday.

"We had a fantastic raffle with kindly donated prizes plus all the sponsorship which has the total so far at around £2,700, which is £1,700 over our estimate.

"We are all amazed by the generosity of everyone and look forward to handing the cheque to Wales Air Ambulance once all collected."

Wales Air Ambulance Charity is funded by the people of Wales and requires £6.5 million a year to keep its four helicopters in the sky, serving Wales and saving lives.
