Whitchurch will not host a consultation session for the future of emergency services in Shropshire, it was confirmed this week.

NHS representatives gave a presentation and answered questions the Whitchurch Local Joint Committee meeting at the town's Civic Centre on Wednesday.

Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group started the consultation in May on two options for the county, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales and it will run until September.

However, the nearest consultation public exhibition will be in Market Drayton on August 2 and at Cabin Lane Church in Oswestry on August 15.

One attendee at the LJC asked for the panel to note that Whitchurch is a similar size to Ludlow who will get an exhibition on July 4, while another audience member stated the town is considered one of the biggest in the county.

However, it was stated in the presentation that if there is need for a mid-consultation review, then Whitchurch would be in line to host one for residents to attend.

The two options for Future Fit are to host emergency care are at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with planned care for Princess Royal Hospital in Telford or vice versa.

Option one, at Shrewsbury, is Shropshire CCG's preferred option as they believe it will provide best value for money over the long term and feel they would be the best way for the CCG to recruit new members of staff.

It was stated in the presentation that since announcing their preferred option and the consultation period, the CCG has appointed three emergency consultants to its Shrewsbury hospital, and feel they would not be able to do this if Telford became the hub for emergency care.

Anyone wishing to take part in the Future Fit consultation can do so by heading online to www.nhsfuturefit.org or by sending a hard copy to Freepost NHS FF Consultation, or by attending one of the exhibitions over the coming weeks.
