CIVIC Hall matters and co-opting a new councillor are among the items on the agenda at the latest meeting of Whitchurch Town Council.

Councillors at the meeting on Thursday (June 21) be requested to note that there will be an extraordinary town council meeting at 5.30pm on Wednesday, to discuss the transfer of the Civic Centre freehold with Shropshire County Council officers.

The meeting at Whitchurch Civic Centre will also hear that Balfour Beatty has requested the council agrees to closing the four parking spaces at the front of the building during the High Street closure for urgent gas pipe replacement work.

Councillors will also hear a short statement from prospective member Simon Hamlyn, before making a decision on co-option.

The work will take four weeks and will start on Monday, July 23.

Meanwhile, Whitchurch Museum and Archives have received a grant from the Arts Council to upgrade the entrances doors to the Heritage Centre to automated doors.

There will be no cost to Whitchurch Town Council. To receive and approve the quote with current and proposed door plans to replace the main entrances into the Heritage Centre.

Following work on the sports hall, councillors will receive an asbestos fire report from Care Analytical Ltd.

There is also set to be a presentation on the town’s involvement community-led planning by Nicola Fisher, senior enablement officer for Shropshire Council.

Councillors are also set to receive reports from West Mercia Police safer neighbourhood team and the town’s Shropshire council members.

There will also be a chance for the public to make representations, ask questions and give evidence in respect of business transacted at the meeting and any other matter for which the council has a responsibility.

The meeting will be held in the Edward German Room, at Whitchurch Civic Centre from 7.15pm.
