Ellesmere Town Council has supported plans for a new all-weather pitch at Lakelands Academy.
At the monthly meeting, councillors discussed the application, which calls for a synthetic turf sports pitch and associated works at the school in Oswestry Road.
The site, which is within the grounds of the academy and is part of its existing campus, is an existing playing field which is surrounded by trees and hedging which screens views into and from the site.
The application states that all gates will be lockable and the pitch has been positioned to minimise light spill, but illuminate the pitch enough to the requirements of the sport governing bodies, and minimise noise onto the surrounding areas.
The floodlights would not be used after 10pm.
Councillors agreed to support the proposal in principle, subject to the application being conditioned to control the times of usage of the pitch and floodlights in order to minimise any impact on nearby residents.
