A WEEK of events will celebrate the efforts of carers throughout the county.

To mark Carers Week (June 11 - 17), Shropshire Council will hold several activities.

Advisors will be on hand at Oswestry Library from 10am to midday on Wednesday, June 13, to offer advice and support to carers.

An information and fundraising session will be held at Whitchurch Civic Centre from 9.30am to midday on Friday, June 15.

There will also be a carers garden part at Cleobury Mortimer from 12.30pm - 3pm on

Tuesday, June 12.

Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services, health and social housing, said:

"We want to celebrate the fantastic work Shropshire carers do during Carers Week. There are events happening across the county, which we hope carers will be able to take part in.

More than 34,000 people in Shropshire are caring for someone, including more than 600 young carers

Mr Chapman said: "Many people do not recognise themselves as a carer and see it simply as being something they ‘just do’.

"Whilst caring can be rewarding, it can also be exhausting and we would always encourage people to seek information and support earlier, rather than later, to ensure the right support can be provided at the right time.”

Any carer or person who feels they may be fulfilling a care role can contact the Carers Trust Carers Support helpline  for more information - during office hours - on 01743 341 995.
