The Lyneal Trust based at Lyneal Wharf near Ellesmere, are holding an open day to welcome people on board their three special boats.

This is a unique opportunity, when all three of the Trust’s boats will be at the wharf at the same time including the brand-new Shropshire Maid allowing visitors to go aboard and look over each boat and meet the volunteers who run the trust.

The volunteers at the Lyneal Trust invite members of the public to join them on May 26 between 12 noon and 2pm, just before the boats go into service later that afternoon. During the event the Shropshire Lord Lieutenant Sir Algernon and Lady Heber Percy will perform the naming ceremony of the Shropshire Maid.

Visitors will also be able to view the wharf cottage, chalets and gardens that sit adjacent to the wharf. They have been specially adapted to provide holidays and recreation for people with disabilities, vulnerabilities and recovering from illness together with their family and carers.

Shropshire Maid, the brand-new custom built six-berth holiday boat is unique in its design and facilities making holidays accessible for people of all ages who never thought it would be possible. Shropshire Lass, is a eight-berth holiday boat, and has just returned to the wharf after a complete refurbishment, ready to take families out on the canal system. Shropshire Lady, is a very popular day boat and will also be moored at the wharf. All three boats have lifts for wheelchair access allowing complete freedom to visit the whole boat.
