Chester Road Bowling club, in Chester Road, have received a momento for future members from one of the club's longest-serving bowlers, who passed away in 2017.

Peter Hicks was a keen member of the club, which has a wide number of members, and will be enjoyed by many over the years to come.

A club spokesman said: "The family of Peter Hicks presented a bench in his memory to Chester Road Bowling Club in Whitchurch recently. Peter who passed away last year aged 89 had been an active member of the club for almost thirty years.

"Serving as secretary for fifteen years, part of that time taking on the job of treasurer alongside. He had been captain of two teams for many years until 18 months ago. Peter’s wife Sylvia, daughter Janet and granddaughter Kirsty are pictured with some members of the club."

Meanwhile, the bowling club is holding a Coffee Morning at the Civic Centre on Friday, May 18 from 9am until midday. The usual stalls including Tombola, Grand Draw and Bric a Brac. Everyone welcome.
