Dog walkers gathered at the mere in Ellesmere for a dog walk organised by a resident from Ellesmere and her dog.

One-year-old crossbreed Dr Darcy and his owner Joanne Lesley wanted to host a positive event to bring people together.

From Pugs to Golden Retrievers and dogs in their walking coats, a group gathered for the walk around the mere.

Joanne said: “We had a great afternoon with about 20 dogs in all. It was a brilliant afternoon and we are discussing making it a regular event”.

It was organised to raise spirits in the town after a number of negative posts on a local social media page.

Joanne also wanted to promote poop scooping and the responsibility owners have when they have dog.

Tesco in Ellesmere supported the event by providing yummy treats for the dogs and dogs’ poo bags.

Joanne added: “There was great support from the local community and businesses and many enquires if we will do the walk regularly.

“So I am just sounding people out and looking at how it could develop.”
