Malpas is again playing a part in the annual Sandstone Trail Festival, on Saturday May 19.

The Acorn writing group members will read some of their captivating and absorbing work in the beautiful setting of St Oswalds Church, Malpas, from10.00am to 11.00am. The event is free, people are welcome to just turn up.

Then from1.30pm to 3.00pm at Bishop Heber School, Malpas, there is Our Uninvited Guests - The Secret Lives of Britain's Country Houses 1939-45, which was published by Simon and Schuster in March 2018 and written by by Julie Summers.

This book offers behind-the-scenes glimpses of life in some of Britain's greatest country houses that were occupied by people who would never otherwise have set foot in such opulent surroundings.

Tickets are £7.50. This is followed by a lecture entitled A Lifetime’s Climbing, Altitude Medicine and Tibetan Traditional Medicine from 3.30pm to 5.00pm at the same venue.

Dr Charles Clarke is a well-known mountaineering doctor who has been on many expeditions with Sir Chris Bonington. In this lecture Charlie remembers some of these trips, reviews the history of altitude medicine and highlights of traditional Tibetan medical practice. Tickets are £7.50.

This is followed by Boys Allowed….Out! at Jubilee Hall, Malpas, from 8pm until late.

Tony, Mike and Steve have been “allowed out” since 2005 – playing a distinctive style of blues-rock in and around the Cheshire region. Material from the likes of ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix, the Alex Harvey Band and Steve Ray Vaughan all get the Boys Allowed..Out treatment – high-energy, buckets of feel, and a touch of good humour! Tickets are £10.
