Walkers can get involved in a good cause at Whitchurch's Alderford Lake next month, in memory of a former Wem Rotarian.

Wem and District Rotary Club is holding its annual walk, which was renamed the annual John Styles Sponsored Walk on Sunday, May 13 at Alderford, which is in Tilstock Road on the outskirts of the town.

The course will be fully supervised by Rotary Club stewards, while there will also be a qualified first aider on site throughout the event.

Organiser, Philip Moyse – also a Wem town councillor – is urging anyone to get involved to help raise money in memory of John.

He said: "Everything is organised all you have to do is turn up and walk as long as you like.

"The walk starts at 2pm and we must be out by 4pm. The walk around the lake is just under one mile.

"If you have a charity or a good cause then this is a delightful way to earn some funding bring your dog although they must be kept on a lead.

"All ages welcome and those under 16 will receive a certificate of achievement. The money we'll make will be split 50/50 between your selected charity and the Wem Rotary Club.

"Anyone who is unable to sponsor a walker can also make a donation too. The lake is prefect go and watch watch too as it has parking, a cafe and a childrens’ play area.

People are encouraged to come along in a costume and make it more fun."

Anyone wishing to get involved, or find out more about sponsorship forms, can contact Mr Moyse on 01939 233533.
