Pupils from schools celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite fictional characters.

The snow didn't deter the children as they braved the weather to dress as all sorts of characters, ranging from the Gruffalo to Mary Poppins, to Fantastic Mr Fox to Gangsta Granny.

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

This is the 21st year there’s been a World Book Day.

It encourages children of all ages to come together to appreciate reading and to explore the pleasures of books.
