The Whitchurch skatepark has taken another step towards completion after two potential construction companies have been revealed.

Bendcrete Leisure Ltd which is based in Abingdon in Oxfordshire, and Canvas Spaces Ltd from Bristol, made the shortlist and will now display their proposals to the public.

The tender for the skatepark had been put out by Shropshire Council, which said it would narrow the longlist down to two companies and leave the final choice to members of the public.

Both companies specialise in skatepark design, and will attend a drop-in workshop at the Civic Hall on February 21 in the Edward German Room.

Bendcrete Leisure Ltd will be at the Civic Hall from 10am until 12pm and Canvas Spaces Ltd from 1pm until 3pm.

During the workshops, the two companies will outline their designs for the skatepark, allowing members of the public and the council to ask questions and provide feedback.

Provisions for the skatepark say that it must include a half bowl, ramps and rails and it also must have adequate drainage and signposting.

No matter which company secures the contract, the skatepark is scheduled for completion by May 25, in time for the half-term holidays.

Lezley Picton, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said two companies were the only ones to tender.
