A north Shropshire village is heading into fairyland with its own production of Cinderella next week.

The pantomime, on February 9, 10 and 11 at Welshampton Parish Hall, has been written by local author, Joan Davies who has given the traditional fairytale a Welshampton twist.

It will be directed by Danny Davies.

The latest production from the performance team at Welshampton Bonfire Committee features a cast of almost 30 colourful characters as well as music directed by Ellesmere musician Trixi Field and sets designed by local artist, Tony Lewery.

More than 50 volunteers from the village and surrounding areas have been hard at work on the production since November.

The Welshampton Bonfire Committee was started in 2002 when the community got together to combine music, fireworks and storytelling in an event named Festival of Fire. The shows were a hit and grew into a popular annual event.

After 10 years they came to an end but the community carried on.

In the past few years the group has turned to forms of other local entertainment including a 'winter' pantomime, this being the eighth performance.

There will be four performances over the weekend - on Friday and Saturday nights, and during the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets for the production, which takes place in Welshampton Parish Hall, are available by contacting Janet Jones on 01948710602 and are also on sale at the Sun Inn, Welshampton. They cost £7 for adults, £5 for seniors and £4 for children.
