A proposal to build five homes in Prees has been backed by councillors despite concerns.

Members of the North Shropshire Planning Committee said they were worried that a ‘pinchpoint’ would be created by building the homes in Shrewsbury Street, which is that the only access for the site is to the rear which is also earmarked for housing

Ray Hirons, chairman of Prees Parish Council, said they didn’t have any objections to the site, but did have concerns about the pinchpoint, adding that members would be meeting the following day (Wednesday) to discuss a submitted proposal for the land to the rear.

Cllr Pauline Dee said: “I am concerned about how narrow that access will be. I can see cars getting scratched.”

However, Cllr Joyce Barrow said: “We are judging the application that is in front of us. Highways are quite happy with the application and I’m sure the issue will be solved.”

Cllr Paul Milner added: “I do understand where the parish council and the local member are coming from, but it is a chicken and egg thing and all we can do is make a decision on what we have in front of us – I just hope it doesn’t come back on us.”
