Calverhall & Ightfield WI held its Annual Meeting on this month and were treated to an interesting talk from auctioneer Aaron Dean.

He is one half of Whitchurch’s Trevanion and Dean and to start off the proceedings, he entertained members with a slide show about the history of their auction room in Station Road.

He showed photos of some of the beautiful homes and buildings he has visited with his work on Flog It and talked about some of the items he’s had the pleasure of selling for people.

After his presentation he very kindly looked at the antiques brought by members and gave some rough valuations.

After that, the AGM was held with the current committee returning, while members heard about the good work carried in this year’s programme.

This included hearing what the Riding for the Disabled and the Rural Communities Charity provide in Shropshire, and visiting a delightful garden where they enjoyed a wonderful tea.

As well as their own programme, many members have enjoyed Federation events including rambles workshops, lunches, skittle competition and the ballet.

As always the WI gives members the opportunity, to visit interesting places, to take part in a variety of activities and events and to learn new skills in a safe and friendly environment, plus have fun.

If you’d like to come to one of the meetings, it is every second Thursday at Calverhall Village Hall at 7.15pm.
