A guide to some of the things happening around Malpas this week:

Malpas Flower Club

Malpas Flower Club held their November meeting on Monday, November 20 at the Jubilee Hall Malpas at 2pm.

The demonstrator was Keith Smithies from Rhos on Sea with a title ‘Fabulous Festival’.

It was certainly fabulous, sparkling and seasonal and all had an excellent afternoon, with the group looking forward to next Monday when more than 40 members are spending the day at Bents Garden Centre.

Their Christmas party this year is on Monday, December 11, entitled ‘Christmas is Coming’.

There will be soup and puddings, competitions, entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas.

On Monday, December 18, chairman Janet Blake is holding a Christmas Workshop.

Allotments in Malpas are set to be advertised until January next year following the parish council meeting last week.

Any parishioner in Malpas wanting to take on an allotment should contact Ruth Shackleton, council clerk, on 01948 861353 or email malpaspc@hotmail.com

The cost of an allotment is £52 a year. It was pointed out that tending an allotment was good exercise and a source of healthy, organic food. The crops were safer from theft now that a locked door had been fitted.

There will be a meeting of allotment holders and prospective allotment holders at 8pm on Monday, December 4 at 8pm in The Old School Tea Rooms, Church Street.

For further details contact parish councillor Charles Lowick Higgie 01948 860083 or 07981 074373, email higgiecharles@gmail.com

There is a bingo night on Wednesday, November 29 at The Old School Tea Rooms to raise money for Malpas Chess Club.

Doors open 7pm, eyes down 7.30pm. All are welcome. Anyone needed transport to and from the bingo please contact Charles Lowick Higgie on 01948 860083 or 07981074373 or through Facebook or emailhiggiecharles@gmail.com

Christmas Event

Malpas is hosting Christmas events on Saturday, November 25.

There will be a Christmas Market including Santa’s Grotto in the Jubilee Hall from 11am to 4.30pm, followed by the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Then there will be Carols at St Oswald’s Church, Malpas at 5.30pm, with mince pies and mulled wine.

Friday Friendly

The Friday Friendly Club, which meets 10am to midday on Fridays at the Malpas Young People’s Centre would like to thank local shops and the community who supported a Coffee Morning on Friday November 10.

They raised £340.

It is £3 a visit to attend. The club grew out of the Brightlife initiative to help over 50s in the community.
