The B5065 Soulton Road between Wem and the A49 has re-opened with traffic lights after engineers removed the heavy goods vehicle that crashed there last week.

The HGV came off the road around 2.30pm on Thursday, and struck the Grade Two-listed Soulton Bridge, causing significant damage, before landing in the brook on its side.

The road was closed on Thursday afternoon and evening, and was re-opened on Thursday night under two-way traffic lights.

The recovery of the HGV from took place on Saturday, closing the road from 7.30am and 1pm, to allow recovery to take place.

Meanwhile, Shropshire Council have confirmed any repair works will take place in the spring of next year because the type of material needed cannot be used in cold weather.

Also, the council said any repair works will need to be agreed with its Historic Environment team because of the bridge’s listed status.
