WHITCHURCH will be hoping their stay at the top of the Shropshire League Premier Division doesn’t prove just a honeymoon period as they face up to the next three games without popular skipper Alex Huxley.

Former Shropshire opener Huxley will miss matches against Albrighton, Ludlow and Newtown as he and wife Nicola go off on a delayed honeymoon, having tied the knot in October.

Whitchurch were denied a likely victory against second-placed Worfield by the rain on Saturday.

But they still lead the Shropshire table by a commanding 36 points after seven games of the season.

Worfield were 54-2 off 13 overs in reply to the Whitchurch 50-over total of 289-8 when the heavens opened – and Huxley felt his side were well on course to win.

“The total we piled up was always going to put pressure on Worfield,” he said. “We had them two down and fancied our chances of winning.

“But once it started raining, there was no chance of us getting back out there.”

Highlight of the Whitchurch innings was an amazing knock by Connor Tinsley, who hammered 91 off just 53 balls after coming in when the score was 84-5.
