NORTH Shropshire Wheelers’ latest race, the Hawkestone Hilly 19, also incorporated round three of the Shropshire Cycling Clubs SB Sports Injuries series of races. 

A beautiful Sunday morning saw 24 riders making it to the start line, with seven from the host club.

The two-lap course presented a different and technical challenge to the riders including two climbs past the Hawkestone Follies. 

Leading the way for the Norths was Richard Kay who, despite struggling on the second leg, managed a top-10 finish with a time of 49.39. 

The course was suited to Dave Drew, who also put in a good  morning’s work to record 51.14 with Tim Rex showing a return to form by stopping the clock at 52.36. 

A newcomer to the Norths, Gareth Brookes, recorded a competitive time of 55.28, holding off the challenge of Archie Walkerdine (56.50) with the final Norths competing, Dave Wilson and Gino Trasatti, recording 57.40 and 58.13 respectively.

Round two of the Norths’ evening series was well supported with 16 riders competing. 

Visiting riders dominated proceedings with Mark Minton of Market Drayton CC claiming top spot in a time of 22.55.

 Mid Shropshire Wheelers’ Beccy Lewis finished second just five seconds adrift. 

A “come and try” ride from Nick Archer claimed third in 23.58, with the top five being completed by the Norths’ Richard Garbett and Tim Rex, who finished with times of 24.02 and 24.06 respectively.
