COUNCILLORS will consider additional traffic measures put forward by the Wem Economic Forum at the town’s full council meeting tomorrow.

The item, as part of three covering highway issues in a shortened agenda, will contain the measures which were proposed as part of the HGV Survey carried out in the town.

Residents and councillors alike have long been concerned with the amount of HGV traffic passing through Wem to towns such as Shrewsbury and Oswestry.

There have been recent calls for a bypass to help relieve the traffic issues caused by lorries, buses and tractors.

But councillors will consider more as-yet-unannounced measures, as well as the implementation of a one-way traffic system along Noble Street, which has been requested by Councillor Pauline Dee.

There will also be an update regarding the Mill Street Vehicle Activated Sign.

Meanwhile, other items include the appointment of a litter picker – which will be heard in the private session, excluding press and public.

There will be three planning proposals for consideration, including a tree conservation order in Drayton Gate; the building of a detached garage and the formation of a garden in Trentham Road and the building of a two-storey side extension in Pantaulf Road.

Councillors will receive correspondence concerning a housing white paper from Shropshire Council.

They will also discuss a letter from the Environment Agency relating to Roden Grove.

Councillors from Shropshire will report back to town members concerning country issues and any other items for future agendas will be added.
