Alex Hughes's return from local rivals Whitchurch Alport wasn’t the biggest news story coming out of Malpas FC this week.  Caretaker boss Danny Lloyd has handed the reins over to father Tommy for the remainder of the season so  he can concentrate on playing.  Tommy is a great football man, who has among his possessions an FA Trophy winners’ medal he gained while with Telford United.  Lloyd played for the Bucks in a 1-0 extra-time win over Macclesfield Town at Wembley Stadium back in 1989 under Stan Storton’s management.  And now he finds himself in the hot seat at Wrexham Road, facing just six matches in which to secure their Premier Division future. Lloyd senior took charge for the first time on Saturday at what looked like a winnable game at Eagle Sports.  Eagle looked doomed to relegation as they started the campaign with eight straight defeats but they’ve picked up plenty of points of late to ease any lingering fears of the drop.  They look well capable of finishing comfortably clear of the bottom two, with Styal and Garswood in the most trouble.  Mind you, with Malpas having played two games more than both, then the threat of being sucked into a relegation battle cannot yet be completely ruled out – and a 2-0 away defeat at Eagle barely helped their cause. *For a full Malpas FC round-up, see this week's Whitchurch Herald
