A PARTNERSHIP scheme that can help improve access in Whitchurch’s Queensway park is calling on residents to give them support.

The Meres and Mosses Landscape Partnership Scheme, which has been running for four and a half years, works in north Shropshire to improve landscapes for people and wildlife.

Luke Neal, community officer for Meres and Mosses Landscape Partnership Scheme, wants people to help fund the project at Queensway, so they can receive match funding on top of it.

“We held two play days in the park to consult with residents on their ideas and preferences that has resulted in a plan,” said Luke.

“This is a great opportunity to develop Queensway playing fields into a thriving space that provides people with new skills, training opportunities, contact with nature and, of course, a place to play.

“For us to be able to secure the funding for the play equipment, we need to secure up to £5,000 from other sources.

“For each £1 that anyone is able to offer us we can access another £5 of funding.

“Without this support we will be unable to apply for the funding that will pay for the climbing frame, zip wire and rice bowl swing the residents desperately want to encourage older children back into the park.”

Queensway Playing Fields Association has helped create the plan, endorsed by the community, to carry out a range of improvements to the park including wildlife habitats, a board walk and new play equipment.

Funding for this plan would help secure annual play days, training and wildlife activities, and hope to build a timber climbing frame with a bridge, tower and scramble nets.
