TWO goals inside the space of three minutes brought The New Saints eight-game winning streak to a halt after they were guilty of letting a comfortable lead slip at Bala Town last Friday night.
Mike Davies’ men looked to be on course to register a ninth straight win when Matty
Williams and Greg Draper both found the net to give TNS a 2-0 lead going into half-time.

But a quick-fire double from Steve Brown and Mark Jones pegged the Oswestry side back midway through the second period meaning Saints missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after Neath also dropped points to 10-man Aberystwyth.
The New Saints overcame a shaky start in the Maes Tegid clash to take the lead when Williams connected with a sweetly struck volley from the edge of the area on 22 minutes. And Bala supporters feared the worst when Draper squeezed a header in at the far post from the acutest of angles to leave TNS coasting as he made the most of a Simon Spender cross just six minutes later. But the 378-strong crowd may have known there could be a sting in the tail after Nicky Ward wasted a
chance to finish the game as he failed to hit the target when well placed to do better shortly before the interval.
An injury to Draper saw him depart the game early in the second half, and a rejuvenated Bala side pressed forward in a bid to repeat their opening day of the season exploits when they held the Saints to a one-all draw at Park Hall.
And they were not to be denied a share of the spoils this time around either with Brown putting them on course for a point when his 59th minute shot deflected off
Steve Evans and beyond Paul Harrison in the TNS goal.
And in a devastating three minute spell Jones fired in a second for the Lakesiders with a 20-yard free-kick that again benefited from a deflection after Evans had felled Lee Hunt. Bala had to call on goalkeeper Terry McCormick to save the day at the other end however, as he made a smart double save to deny Alex Darlington and then Williams from snatching the three points and he left Saints rueing a golden opportunity to put daylight between themselves and the rest of the sides in the
Welsh Premier League.
