ELLESMERE College is celebrating a number of successes on the shooting range after students and their coach both hit the mark recently.
College Shooting Academy Coach, Tom Rylands, is setting off for Australia next week to compete in the World Championships in Brisbane as a member of the Great Britain team.
Qualifying to represent Great Britain in 1988, this is Tom's seventh tour with a GB team and his second to Australia, having toured previously there in 1997.
He has 33 appearances to date for England and GB, and was the highest scorer, scoring 200 out of 200, in last year's Australia match, a new record.
A number of Ellesmere College Shooting Club members recently participated in the National Shooting Championships held at Bisley, Surrey.
Sixth Form students, Richard Belcher and Ryan Williams, alongside James Slater in Year 11, competed in the Junior International matches with several personal bests being recorded. Ryan Williams also achieved a bronze medal in the three position team event.
The Ellesmere group of 16 students was the largest school contingent present, with a remarkable six pupils being selected to represent British Schools in a match against Denmark.
Three college members are now with the Welsh junior squad, with one member recently selected for the Welsh Development Squad for the Commonwealth Games.
The Academy currently encompasses, air rifle, air pistol and .22 rifle disciplines and has plans to expand to include all Olympic target sports.
