Well, that’s it for this year then and what a wretched run our local sports teams are having with the weather writes MARTIN WILD.
For the FOURTH consecutive week, Whitchurch Alport were left kicking their heels as their long-awaited home clash with second in the table Runcorn Reserves fell victim to the elements.
The decision to postpone the game was as straight forward as they come with temperatures having plummeted overnight in the days before the game.
It would have already been in doubt but a steady snowfall on Friday evening gave Yockings Park a distinctly picturesque postcard kind of look and that was that.
Alport haven’t kicked a ball since November 20th and with Christmas Day and New Years Day both falling on a Saturday this year, the earliest they will play is January 8th when they have a scheduled Shropshire FA Cup quarter-final tie lined up at Greenfields, against EvoStik League outfit Market Drayton.
There had been some conjecture over the actual date with Alport’s secretary Peter Tew taking a call to ask if Whitchurch were prepared to move the tie to midweek.
Manager Andy Allmark was reluctant to agree to the request and Drayton were asked to refer back to the County FA  as they had agreed with the EvoStik to release Market Drayton for Conference dates.
With no further dialogue having taken place between the two clubs, it’s expected that the last eight tie will take place on the 8th – weather permitting! Alport are hoping to get a friendly game on in the days ahead of that game to get some kind of match practice.
In the meantime, the football club would like to wish its players, committee members and its supporters the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
n Malpas were forced to cancel their home game against Moore due to snow.
n There were no games that managed to survive the weather in Cheshire League Two as a blanket of snow carpeted the region, and there will be no further activity until the New Year.
