Out and about in Malpas…

Legion thanks

Members of the Royal British Legion have thanked people for their donations after this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Sharon Jones and Stephen Le Good thanked all the organisations, schools, churches and individuals in the Malpas and Wem areas who helped collect.

So far this year, they have managed to raise £5,300.

Karaoke

There is a ‘Christmas Karaoke’ from about 8.30pm at the Crown Hotel, Malpas on Friday, December 22.

Anyone who fancies a bit of Beyonce or Roxy Music are encouraged to go along.

Church news

The Annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was on Sunday, December 17 at St Oswald’s Church, Malpas.

The lessons were read by 1. Oliver Smith, a chorister, 2. Bill Witter, a parishioner, 3. Sarah Clark, a member of the Tower Bell Ringing Team, 4. Richard Hoffman, a member of the Parochial Church Council, 5. Lady Bibby, chairman of the Friends of St Oswald’s, 6. Vicki Williams, acting headteacher Malpas Alport Primary School, 7. Adrian Waddelove, a member of Malpas Parish Council, 8. Ian Okell, churchwarden, 9. Helen Molesworth, ordained in training.

The director of music was Stewart Smith, the accompanists were Sheila Davies and Henry Smith. The service was lead by the Rector, Canon Ian Davenport. The service was followed by mince pies and mulled wine organised by the Entertainments Committee.

At St Oswald’s, on Christmas Eve there is a Crib Service at 4.30pm and the Midnight Communion Service starts at 11.30pm.

On Christmas Day there is Holy Communion at 8am and Parish Communion with Carols at 11am.

In Threapwood, Christmas Eve services at St John’s Church, Threapwood. Instead there is a Christmas Day Communion with Carols at 9.30am.

In Bickerton, at Holy Trinity Church, on Christmas Eve there is a Crib Service at 3pm and the First Communion of Christmas at 8pm. There are no Christmas Day services.
