Police have arrested one man for drug driving and siezed two more vehicles for not being insured in a crackdown last week.

The checks took place in Prees – outside Whitchurch – and was part of a multi-agency vehicle check.

Sergeant Claire Greenaway, of West Mercia Police, said: “A total of 42 vehicles were brought into the check site.

“The check is a continuation of a great deal of work the road policing team have ongoing along with partner agencies.”

The operation took place last Friday.

In September, six motorists were arrested as part of a joint police operation which targeted motorists travelling in the Whitchurch, Wem and Oswestry areas.

During that operation, more than 130 vehicles were checked, resulting in 15 being seized for no insurance or tax.

Of the six arrests, two were for drink and drug driving, and four drivers were reported for traffic offences.

The operation, tackling cross-border crime, was carried out by the Shropshire division of West Mercia Police, North Wales Police and Dyfed Powys Police.
