Christmas Lights Switch-on Event

Whitchurch Town Council are now busy organising the Christmas lights switch-on which is taking place on Saturday, November 25. The Christmas market and activities will start at midday and the lights be switched on at 5pm as usual.

Please note that there will be a short firework display after the lights have been lit.

A programme of all the events on the day will be available from the Civic Centre, but come into town and see the new Christmas lights and features, including a fairy door trail – forms can be collected from the Hub on the day and completed throughout the festive season.

Citizen of the Year

We are still taking nominations for the Citizen of the Year.

This person is an essential member of the Christmas lights switch-on day as they actual push the button to turn the lights on.

If you would like to nominate someone please collect a form from the Community Hub.

Fund-raising by the Civic Centre staff

Council staff are organising a Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day on Friday, December 15. A team challenge has been set, so come along to the Friday market and find out what we’re up to.

If you would like to support the team and donate £5 to Save The Children, please text TEAM6657 to 70050 – all money collected on the day will also be sent to Save The Children.

Street Lights

With the evening drawing in, Whitchurch Town Council understand that it is important to have street lights working.

Thank you to everyone who has reported problems with street lights. The council staff are working hard with our contractors to remedy the highlighted problems with the lights that this council manages.

A lot of the problems are related to Scottish Power and the Council’s contractors are pushing hard to get street lights back on in your area.

We have never before received this amount of problems with street lights and are working very hard to resolve all matters. Please bear with us and let us know if any further lights are off.

Jubilee Park Play Area Extension – Official Opening

As you may have seen, Jubilee Park play area has been extended. Following a successful consultation with you the Council agreed to proceed and install the play equipment you chose.

Creative Play did an excellent job installing the new play area, just in time for half term, we hope you had fun. This play area will officially be opened on Saturday, November 18 at 11am.

Please come down to Jubilee Park and join us in celebrating the official opening of the new playground.

Conservation Area

You may have heard on the radio or read in the newspaper that Whitchurch conservation area has been put on the Historic England’s Heritage At Risk register.

This decision was made following a survey completed by Shropshire Council. Needless to say, Whitchurch Town Council were straight on the situation and a meeting has been set up with Historic England to discuss the way forward.

I’m letting you know so that you understand Whitchurch Town Council will be working hard with partners to get this situation resolved.

That’s it for now, Whitchurch Town Council look forward to seeing you at the official opening of the Jubilee Park play area on Saturday, November 18 and also, to see you all at the Christmas market and switch-on event on Saturday, November 18.
