A community has pledged almost £7,000 to fund improvements at Wem Swimming Pool.
Thirty people, pool members and businesses have purchased community shares – costing between £50 to £4,000 – in the two months since the scheme was launched.
Another £33,100 is required to fund a new gym and reinstating the viewing and seating area.
Cadi Price, chairman of the Wem Swimming and Lifestyle Centre Ltd, said: “A great many thanks to everyone who has bought a share to date.
“A share would make an ideal Christmas or birthday present, a ‘feel good’ factor to last forever.”
Application forms can be picked up at the pool reception, Wem library or the town hall, while donations can be made via WSLC charity boxes around the town.
The Friends group was established in 2006 when the former North Shropshire District Council wanted to close it and they took over running it two years ago when previous bosses stepped back.
Since then it has been completely refurbished.
