A Whitchurch singer is calling on people in the town to get behind a charity concert for the iconic St Alkmund’s Church.

Peter Edge, 23, is now studying for a masters degree at the Royal College of Music in London, after graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music with a First last summer.

He is bringing together a group of friends to put on the concert, called ‘Opera on an Autumn Evening’ at the church on Saturday, October 28 and hopes people will come to see a high-class evening of singing.

“The funds will go to St Alkmund’s, which is something I’ve long supported,” he said.

“I was a regular there before I moved to London and it’s been a big part of mine and my family’s life.

“It’s a beautiful church and the perfect place for a concert. We did one last year and that went really well, so we’re replicating it again but bigger.

“We’re doing some well known music, almost as a request for the audience. It will feature friends from my time at The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy the beauty of St Alkmunds Church as well as enjoying some wonderful music.

“I’ve used the contacts I’ve made at the RNCM to put the concert and they’re all from the north west.”

Tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door and can bought at the church, or for more details, head to www.peteredgebaritone.co.uk
