A school outside Whitchurch which is up for funding from Tesco is calling on people to support them.

The Friends of Tushingham School, which raises funds, has made the appeal to help reach its goal of building a running track at the school.

Kath Shepherd, the executive headteacher at the school, off the A41, believes the running track will help progress the school’s improved physical education output.

“Our children are thrilled to be part of The Daily Mile project which aims to improve the physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing of children, regardless of age or personal circumstances,” she said.

“Since its introduction to Tushingham Primary School in January, we have seen children’s stamina, alertness and concentration improve.

“The Friends of Tushingham School worked hard to raise funds so every child in school could have their own personal pedometer, helping them to track their steps, time and distance.

“Along with a desire to improve on their personal-best figures, the pedometers have the added bonus of helping to develop children’s maths skills.”

Children at the school complete the Daily Mile in all weathers; however, they are restricted to a small playing area if there has been prolonged bouts of rain.

The Friends wanted to build the all-weather track to ensure pupils can take part in the mile.

The Tesco Bags of Help grant scheme at the Whitchurch store runs until the end of the month and shoppers can place a blue token in the box of their preferred choice.
