Wem Young Farmers Club are looking forward to a new year on the back of a very successful day out at the town’s carnival last week.

The club’s parade float was based on the Island of Sodor, with the standout feature the superb Harold the Helicopter flying high into the Wem sky.

Annabel Gittins, from Wem YFC, was delighted with how the day went but admitted the club felt a bit robbed when it came to the decision making in its ventures this year.

She said: “It was very successful and many compliments have been made about the float.

“The float has had four outings this year and picked up prizes at all of the events and when the club came in second place and not first on two of the occasions.

“Several people were horrified and took to social media to tell us how we should have won and how they thought the float was amazing.

“Having chosen a popular TV programme, Thomas the Tank Engine, everyone young and old were able to relate to our float!

“As a club we would like to thank all sponsors and everyone that helped put the float together this year.

“Just a reminder that our new members evening is on Sunday, September 24 at Prees Cricket Club at 7pm. It would be great to see as many new members there.”
