Staff and students at Whitchurch’s Sir John Talbot School are celebrating having achieved record A-level results for the school.

The school’s Art, English, Maths, Philosophy and Psychology departments all did exceptionally well, with 100 per cent of students achieving A*-C and Maths and Psychology achieving 100 per cent A*-B.

David O’Toole, headteacher at the school, said: “I am incredibly proud of all our students and what they have achieved.

“They have all worked incredibly hard and deserve to celebrate their personal success. Sir John Talbot’s students are well rounded and many have achieved the Duke of Edinburgh award up to Gold standard and all have achieved the Extended Project award.

“Our tutors and staff know all the students individually and ensure advice and guidance is personalised resulting in an excellent experience for everyone.

“All our students are able to make positive plans for September with most students taking up their first choice university places. We wish all our students well as they move on to their next career step.”

Sarah Longville, executive headteacher of the Marches Academy Trust, added she was ‘delighted’ with the excellent results and the opportunities created for all the students at Sir John Talbot’s.

She also thanked parents for the outstanding support they have provided during their children’s education at Sir John Talbot’s School.

Jessica Furber, 18, from Whitchurch, who got five A-levels including A* in Maths, A in Further Maths and an A in History.

She said: “I’m feeling very happy, which is a an understatement, and I’m feeling a bit emotional.

“I’m going to Chester to do Maths and I’m going to move there. I’m still not sure what the long-term goal is but doing maths will hopefully open some doors for me.

“I celebrated with my family.”

Cameron Smith, 18, from Whitchurch, picked up four A-levels, including A* in IT, Business, and an A in Product Design.

He said: “I’m off to Loughborough to do product design.

“I’m happy but I’m not sure it’s quite happened. I’ve had the reward for the hard work I’ve put in and I’m really quite proud of that.

“I celebrated with my family and my friends too.”

Ellie Trew, 18, from Whitchurch, picked up a Distinction* for Physical Education, a B in Psychology and B in Photography.

She said: “I’m feeling happy with these results and it feels like job done.

“I’ve no idea what I’m going to do. I’m going to look at going to university as now I know I’ve got the grades – I didn’t think about it at first.

“I’d like to do something psychology-based but I need to have a think about what’s best for me. I had to go back to work after my results but I celebrated with my family.”

Will Stokes, 19, Whitchurch, picked up four A-levels including an A* in General Studies, an A in Geography, and a B in History.

He said: “I’ll be going to the University of Liverpool to do Geography.

“I’m feeling really happy about my results. I was expecting the results but the Chemistry result is a little lower.

“But I’m really proud of what I’ve done and I’m really happy. My family were delighted with how I’ve done.”
