Whitchurch’s Evelyn Jones admits she has one eye on the winter and a potential Ashes spot with England’s women as she continues a super summer of cricket.

The 25-year-old joined Lancashire last year and has already tasted success as the Red Rose county won the county T20 division one title for the first time in their history.

But while Evelyn has ambitions of a place on the tour Down Under, she wants to keep scoring runs for Lancs as the franchise T20 Kia Super League is under way.

“The Ashes are in Australia this winter so it’s important I do well in the Super League – if I do, it will put me in a good position for that,” she said.

“But I’m not looking forward too far as I’ve had a good summer scoring runs for Lancs, so I want to keep going and play well.

“I’m quite happy with my form. I’m getting a few starts with Lamby (opening partner Emma Lamb) with a few 40s, and I was leading scorer for a bit.

“I’ve got a good partnership with her and we’ve been opening together for the Thunder, too, which is good for us.”

She added she was delighted with the first bit of silverware for her new county – she made two and 20 against Surrey and Yorkshire respectively on Finals Day – and hopes to make it a double this year.

“We won the county T20 division one when we came up against all the counties,” she said.

“I think it was the first time Lancs have won anything at division one level.

“On the Finals Day for the T20, we had some bad weather in the first match against Surrey so it was reduced to nine overs, and I just tried to smack it out of the park.

“The second game was better but it was a low-scoring one and was nice to beat Yorkshire to win the championship.

“The Kia Super League is a franchise tournament and we started that last week with a defeat to Yorkshire.

“The winner of the group will go straight through to Finals Day and they will play the winner of the semi-final.

“So it’s the top three that go through – but winning the group is huge because you’re straight into the final.

“I got to Finals Day last year with Loughborough – I want to try to do it with Lancashire Thunder this time.”

Evelyn will be in action on Sky Sports Cricket tonight.
