It was a town effort last week as the acclaimed storytelling and music extravaganza Festival at the Edge came to Whitchurch.

The event – the oldest storytelling festival in England – pitched up at its new home at Alderford Lake last week.

Organiser Peter Chand was delighted how it went and thanked all those from Whitchurch who played their part.

“The Bebbington family and all their team really helped make Festival at the Edge a success in new surroundings,” he said.

“We are proud of being the oldest storytelling festival in England, and Alderford Lake played its part in making it a magical experience for our festival goers.

“We also appreciated strong support from several festival hosts – local people who accommodated performers in their homes over the festival.

“In exchange for their help, we provided them with weekend passes to enjoy the storytelling and music over the whole event.

“We are considering a shuttle minibus throughout the weekend next year, as booking taxis proved to be quite problematic.

“If anyone in or around Whitchurch can help us with this, we would love to hear from you.”

He added around 1,200 people went to the event and said the festival would have a presence at October’s Blackberry Fair.
