Children turned out in force at Whitchurch Library last weekend for another stage of its summer reading challenge.

Taking on an ‘Animal Agents’ theme for 2017, there are weekly events for children to join as they work towards their challenge of reading six books.

On Saturday, there was a Lego workshop with a wild west theme while kids can follow a treasure hunt for clues and prizes at the Civic Centre branch.

The Animal Agents launched two weeks ago and children have until September 9 to sign up to the challenge, where they can also design their own animal agent.

Hazel Price, branch manager at Whitchurch Library, said: “It’s good to get children in here reading.

“Their challenge is to read six books during the summer holidays and they will have incentives throughout, plus a certificate and medal at the end.

“It’s running for the whole summer holidays and they can start when they register.”

Next Tuesday, there is ‘Park Life’ from 10am for one hour where children can collage colourful characters and wonderful animals to go on the Whitchurch Park Scene.

On August 18, it’s Story Time with the Dog’s Trust and on August 24, it’s Animal Agents Police Detectives – both from 10am for one hour.
