Potential plans to extend the play area in Whitchurch’s Jubilee Park will be put to residents as a town councillor urges them to have their say.

From August 7 to 11, Whitchurch Town Council is running a consultation to find out the views of families regarding any extension to the park.

Councillor Terry O’Neill, who is on the Parks and Public Realm Committee at the council, believes it is important for residents to give their views on what could a huge opportunity for the town.

“This is a great opportunity for Whitchurch residents to have their say about the planned extension for Jubilee Park,” said Cllr O’Neill.

“We have a lot of new houses being built in the town and the council wants to meet demand by adding a range of exciting playground equipment to the play area in the heart of the town centre, which will be aimed at younger children.

“To ensure we provide children and families with the play equipment they would like to see in the park, we are hosting a week of voting so the public can share their views with us.

“It will be a really quick process of just popping into the Civic Centre between August 7 to 11 and placing stickers next to the equipment they like best.

“The play equipment will be predominantly aimed at children of 12 years and younger as this has been identified as the age range that require more facilities on the park.

“This exciting project will be funded from Section 106 money, where contributions have been sought from developers towards the costs of providing community and social infrastructure as the town expands.”

The planned extension for the Jubilee Park play area is an initiative proposed by the Parks and Public Realm Committee.

The council has asked for companies which supply outdoor play equipment to provide a design for the area, being creative and something which allows children to use their imaginations

Meanwhile, Whitchurch Town Council is also running a free Lego building workshop during the consultation week to encourage more children between five and 11 and their families to take part in the voting process.
