THERE WAS no drill for one Star Wars superfan from Higher Heath, near Whitchurch, who raised money for charity by scaling Britain’s highest mountain dressed as a Stormtrooper. Ashley Heath, 28, presented a cheque this week for £1,300 to the Lingen Davies Action Appeal, in Shrewsbury, after spending seven hours climbing Ben Nevis, in Scotland, as a member of the Galactic Empire’s infantry. Many fellow climbers insisted on a picture with the stormtrooper, but Ashley was just delighted to play some part in raising money for a centre that treated his mum Janet’s breast cancer. He said: “When my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer I wanted to do something to raise money for the Lingen Davies Appeal as they were amazing throughout her treatment. “It was hard work but I really enjoyed it. I had a lot of people asking to take pictures with me because they said no-one would believe them. “At first they must have thought I was mad, but once they found out about the charity aspect they loved the idea.” Mum Janet officially entered remission on Wednesday, October 14 following a successful operation in April and chemotherapy treatment at the centre in June. She said: “I am really proud of Ashley. To climb Ben Nevis dressed as a Stormtrooper was really impressive and in many ways it was his way of coping with me having cancer. The Lingen Davies Action Appeal has pledged to raise £750,000 by the end of 2016 to help fund an additional Linear Accelerator for the Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). Ashley has also presented a further £1,300 to Cancer Research UK after the money he raised was matched by family friend Ron Skelley, 62, who also climbed the mountain. He said: “It seemed other people felt the same as passers-by on the mountain were donating cash to the cause.” You can still donate to Ashley's upcoming rebellion on Scafell Pike at https://www.justgiving. com/TK-3440/ To donate to the Lingen Davies Action Appeal visit www.lingen davies.org.uk or Text LDAA15 £5/£10 to 70070.
