PLANS for a hotel, spa, holiday lodges and a restaurant at Dearnford Lake have been submitted to Shropshire Council. The scheme for the venue on Tilstock Road, Whitchurch, includes a 50-bed hotel overlooking the lake, a farm shop and a triathlon track. Manager Rob Bebbington said: “We set up the cafe four years ago and have created a good brand, and now we need to have a route going forward. “Whitchurch is on the up – there is a lot of employment locally, a lot of houses are soon to be built here and this seems like a great opportunity. “A farm shop seems a natural progression from the cafe – I have a farming background and this is a great area for food producers. “The local tourist economy is growing, and our plans would help the area by offering people a place to stay.” The scheme, which would create numerous jobs, has received the support of Whitchurch town council. The plans have been on display at Dearnford Lake’s cafe, and customers have added their own ideas, some of which have been included into the scheme. The venue hosts two main triathlon events each year, and the lake is fast becoming a magnet for wild swimmers from across the country.
