WHITCHURCH residents are preparing to get stuck in and take part in a community litter pick to launch the Herald's A Cleaner Whitchurch campaign.
The date is Saturday, January 5. It will start at 9.45am at the Market Hall, and run for about two hours with groups of litter pickers going out to different areas in and around town.
Refreshments will be provided as will bags and some litter picking equipment - ideally volunteers will bring tough gardening type gloves to protect themselves. The event will finish in the market hall.
Whitchurch vet Andy Nelson is organising the event along with The Whitchurch Herald and he said: “I am hoping for a big turnout to this event - the key thing is to raise awareness as well as picking up litter.
“Please can you all put the date in your diaries and consider coming along to help - and ask anyone you know in Whitchurch who may be interested.
“Children are very welcome as long as they bring a grown up.”
We are welcoming entries from schoolchildren in our competition to design a logo to front the campaign. There are two age groups, 5-11 years and 12-16 years, and entries should be sent to the Whitchurch Herald, 19 High Street, Whitchurch, Shropshire SY13 1AX, by January 31.
Comments on the campaign or litter problems around the town can be sent to the campaign email address, firstname.lastname@example.org
